PaDEP Northwest Region

Industrial Site, St. Marys

Groundwater Sciences Corporation (GSC) has worked for the buyer at this Elk County facility since 1990. The seller has been performing an ongoing remediation at this facility since 1991 to cleanup historical releases of trichloroethene (TCE) and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

GSC and the seller's consultant have completed a combined Remedial Investigation/Risk Assessment/Final Report that will result in a Release from Liability using the Site-Specific Standard. Based on discussions with the PaDEP, issuance of a Release from Liability is expected to follow the submission and review of the Final Report.

GSC has also prepared a Site Management Plan as part of the Post-remediation Care Plan. Upon approval of the combined report, GSC will assume responsibility for implementing the post-remediation care plan, which includes the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of a groundwater extraction and treatment system as an engineering control. GSC has also assisted in the preparation of several environmental covenants under the Uniform Environmental Covenants Act (UECA) for multiple properties including some owned by GSC's client and some owned by others.
